Position Overview

The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatient surgical services. The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit, Admissions, Day Procedure Unit, Endoscopy, and specialist surgical ward areas.

The North Canberra Hospital campus has 2 procedural rooms and provides the following endoscopic services for both inpatients and outpatients including, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy.

The Registered Nurse role reports to the Endoscopy Clinical Nurse Consultant and is responsible for facilitating, contributing and assisting with managing patients on the wait list in collaboration with the Registered Nurse level 2, in providing education, pre procedural information and data collection.

For Registered Nurses starting out in the endoscopy role, the environment and workflows may represent a very different way of Nursing. We have foundational education program designed to provide consistent approach in the support of new endoscopic nurses as you develop nursing new knowledge and skills.

Duties

Under limited direction of the Endoscopy Clinical Nurse Consultant you will perform the role of a Registered Nurse including:

  1. Provide patient care within ethical and professional boundaries in complex situations as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  2. Practice in accordance with the relevant legislation and professional standard for respective classification.
  3. Undertake clinically based training with commitment to acquiring and maintaining knowledge, skills and competencies.
  4. Advocate for individuals and/or groups and their rights for nursing care within the organizational and management structure in ways that consistently place the patient in the centre of care delivery.
  5. Integrate nursing and health care knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe and effective nursing care to achieve a shared goal of good service.
  6. Participate and assist in research and/or quality projects that have a positive impact on patient outcomes, including evaluation of the project’s objectives and outcomes.
  7. Maintain and promote safe clinical practice and adhere to Infection Control principles and practices.
  8. Undertake other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
